About Us

Howard Hindson & Son is a family owned and run business specialising in the highest quality re-upholstery, restoration and repair of domestic, contract and antique furniture in the north east and beyond.

The business was first established in 1947 by Howard Hindson in Russell Street, Middlesbrough, to provide a high quality re-upholstery and furniture restoration service in the north east. We moved in 1974 to Parliament Road and and bought William Lunnon upholstery, another family run upholstery business to cope with the increase in business in 1990.  Seeking to further expand, we made another move in 2004 to Cumberland Road, Middlesbrough giving us a 6000 sq ft workshop with a 1000 sq ft showroom. Andrew joined the company in 2004, serving his full apprenticeship in all types of upholstery. This makes us 3rd generation upholsterers with the skills and traditional techniques to match.

We are suppliers to, and recommended by, leading furniture retailers, including Barker & Stonehouse, Wetherell Furnishers, Race for Furniture and many more. We have supply partnerships with most of the major domestic and contract fabric and leather suppliers including Yarwood, Andrew Muirhead, Futura, Linwood Fabrics, Monkwell Fabrics, Romo Fabrics, Kobe, Ross Fabrics, John Singleton, Hale and Rouse, Skopos, Warwick fabrics, ASC, Sunbury fabrics, Covertex, Cristina Marrone etc. We are proud to be members of The Association of Master Upholsterers.

In fact our pride extends to subscribing to the Association of Master Upholsterer's code of practice. This code is intended to reassure our customers that when dealing with an AMUSF member the upholstering carried out will meet a specific quality standard.
